]]>Wow. It has been a little while since my last post. Apparently time flies when you are as sick as I was. I had the flu for a little over a week. I felt absolutely horrible, however I feel much better now and want to provide an update regarding Sharper Image and their gift cards. The good news for consumers is that Sharper Image will again honor their gift cards. I did see that certain companies began accepting Sharper Image gift cards on their Web sites. Brookstone, a direct competitor of Sharper Image, began accepting Sharper Image gift cards by offering 25% savings if the gift card was given to them. A rather smart idea from Brookstone. I read one article where a gentleman turned is $80 Sharper Image gift card into a savings of $2000 from Brookstone. Now keep in mind he did purchase two chairs for $4000 each!! I know have to go and look up what a uHarmony Chair is an see what it does for the money, but hey I am not one to concern myself with what others are spending. There were a few other online stores accepting the Sharper Image gift cards and now that Sharper Image is going to accept them it seems like the tragedy was narrowly averted.
]]>I am not sure how many people read the news about Sharper Image today regarding their bankruptcy and gift cards, but it struck me as extremely interesting. If you did not get a chance to read the news I will provide you with a brief overview of what is going on. Sharper Image has filed for bankruptcy and apparently their gift cards are no longer valid. However, I did read on ChicagoTribune.com that a customer service agent was contacted and said that consumers should be able to use the gift cards in the future. I am not sure how this will play out, but it does not sound very good. I will not draw conclusions, but will say that buying Visa gift cards seems to be the safer choice. I will look into this more as the week goes on and continue to write about it.
]]>There seems to always be a reason to shop for a gift. The holidays are always the busiest time for people to shop, but what about the remainder of the year? Having a large family, I always have birthdays on my mind. I am lucky, and unlucky to some extent that two of my brothers and my sister have birthdays in November. The problem with that is it rolls right into the holidays without a chance to catch my breathe in terms of shopping. Maybe that is why I enjoy January through June because I have more time to think about the gifts I want to give. That could be the reason my dad seems to luck out and my wife and I always buy him something he seems to really like. He is easy to shop for, he loves history, loves music, loves the outdoors, works out like a maniac, and loves spending time with his family and spoiling us all. His birthday is in April and we are already thinking about what to get him this year. Although, sometimes he likes going to the store and picking out his own books and music, so maybe a gift card this year. There is always the opportunity to learn more, reach out to the people who are more experienced, and study and test what entails making a site rank higher in search results. However, lately, MSN is not making any sense to me at all. I know that I have read that others have had similar issues with MSN, but it doesn't make sense to me that their results fluctuate so often. For instance, when I was searching for one of my main keywords, gift cards, the results were varying on a daily basis. Not to mention the site that was number one for a few short hours was not optimized at all. Then, all of a sudden the results completely flipped and there GiftCards.com was back in the first natural position...unbelievable. Many agree that MSN's is very different than Google's and Yahoo's, but I just don't understand the results fluctuating so frequently.

]]>I have to blog about the Super Bowl. I am sure that so many people hit the Web last night to rant about the Giants winning! I do apologize if you are a Patriots fan, I know what it feels like way worse than that because I am a Buffalo Bills fan. So my heart does go out to all of the fans that are crushed, but you have S.B. titles, we don't. Anyways, what a great game for a football fan to watch. Many folks exclaimed to me today that it was so boring to watch. I couldn't agree less. I thought that it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole game because I was waiting for Brady to put the game away with a huge play or Manning to put the game away with a big mistake. It didn't happen though. I was glad that it stayed close the whole game and the ending couldn't have been more exciting.
The ads however were rather boring. I enjoyed the FedEx commercial with the pigeons and of course thought that Will Ferrell was hilarious, but other than that I was rather disappointed. There definitely were not any bank or gift card commercials, which I was interested in seeing. Not because they would have been exciting, but I wanted to see what GiftCards.com wasn't doing compared to the other big names in our industry. I would have expected at least a Visa commercial with all of the money they have.
Overall, it was a rather fun night of television, one because of the game, and two because I am a big Tom Petty fan and despite the fact that the reviews said he played it safe, I thought it was great and I am pumped to see him on the road this year with Stevie Winwood!
